It's been a week since Daylight Savings
Why am I still tired...

Happy Friday! How’s that time change treatin’ ya? 😉
Time changes are tough (don’t know why we still have them). Sure it’s nice that it gets brighter earlier, but I’m not so sure I like it getting so dark so quickly. As cozy as this time of the year gets, longer days are still better IMO.
Even though we’re a week out (almost) from the time change, it takes some of us a little longer for our bodies to recalibrate to gaining an extra hour. For most, this is the more “ideal” time change since we get an extra hour of sleep. However, whether we’re springing forward or falling back an hour, doing so will greatly affect our body’s natural circadian rhythm. And disturbing your body’s natural circadian rhythm while still having to live and operate as if time daylight savings didn’t exist? Well, it’s no wonder we feel “off”, groggy, disoriented, are forgetful, and make mistakes.

So, for those of you who can’t quite adapt to the time change yet, here are 3 tips to help you adjust quickly:
Tip #1: Turn on “Do Not Disturb”.
An hour before going to bed, turn on “Do No Disturb” mode and put your phone away. Even though you may be mindlessly scrolling through your instagram or TikTok, your mind is still engaged in an activity, making it hard to disengage and begin to relax.
Tip #2: Take a warm shower.
Or bath. Whichever helps you relax more. Ideally, you’ll want to take a warm shower or bath right before getting into bed. Doing so will help lower your body temperature which will induce sleep.
Tip #3: Read a book.
How about an e-book? Nope. Blue light exposure, especially at night, will affect your brain’s response to producing melatonin, a hormone that helps with the timing of your circadian rhythm and sleep. You’re better off reading a book with dim lighting in bed than to stare at your phone in the dark.
Try one or all three of these tips and see which one you like best!
