Re: Mindset

When it comes to the pursuit of bettering yourself, I challenge you to make sure you frame your mindset to one that wants to “get it right” instead of seeking “to be right”.
Being right means you have the answers. It means your opinion is always correct or carries more weight then another person’s opinion.
This person emphasizes proving themself correct and potentially prioritizing personal validation over the best result.
This keeps swimmers from going faster, performing better, and lasting longer.
“I already know the correct technique, why am I wasting my time at practice”?
“I’ve always been able to function on 6 hours of sleep, why is coach always getting on me about getting 8 hours every night”?
“I already know how to lift weights, why would I waste my time with a strength coach”?
This keeps coaches from using the best evidence to lead swimmers through their training, recovery, and athletic journey in and out of the pool.
“This is the same dryland training we’ve been using for years, why would we talk to a trainer”?
“I can just Google nutrition plans for my team, why would we talk to a nutrition specialist”?
“We run practices this way because it’s always worked in the past, why change now”?
The art of “getting it right” focuses on achieving best outcomes by considering all perspectives and information.
These people:
are open to feedback…
consider data and performance metrics…
foster a collaborative environment…
are willing to adjust their opinion based on changes in evidence…
It doesn’t matter if you’re a coach with 40 years of experience or a new swimmer trying to learn how to go faster, the MINDSET needs to be growth-focused and process-oriented.
The team of coaches at Hybrid Performance & Physiotherapy are focused on “getting it right” and are looking for like-minded people who also want to “get it right”.
