Better streamlines in 5 steps
Also, guess how old baby Malia is now ;)

Today’s the last Friday of October… How?!
Is it just me or does time seem to go by faster as we age? Especially with an infant (baby Malia just turned 12 weeks old this week - hip hip hooray! 🎉), I feel like I blink and I’m missing chunks of time during my day.
Anyway, for those celebrating Halloween this weekend, have loads of fun! I’ll be home dressing my baby as a pumpkin while she’s napping 🎃
Okay, okay. Let’s get to the fun stuff. Mom brain = major distractions. Even in a newsletter.
Because you guys voted for swimming tips in my IG story for this week’s newsletter, we’re going to discuss how to achieve the perfect streamline in 5 easy steps:
Step 1: Get Your Arms Overhead.
If you’re young and you’ve never had a shoulder injury, this is a piece of cake for you. Skip to step 2.
For those of you with some wrinkles on your face like me, read on. 😉
As we age, our mobility decreases especially in our shoulders… and especially if you don’t do any overhead movements. So, make sure you’re able to get full range of motion in your shoulders first.
Tip: If your upper and mid back are stiff, that will affect your ability to bring your arms overhead. So you’ll need to work on that, too.
Step 2: Stack your hand on top of each other.
Pretty self-explanatory… Next step.
Step 3: Hook the bottom hand with the thumb of your top hand.
This is a surprisingly important step that many swimmers don’t realize. If you don’t hook your thumb around your hand, your streamline will fall apart as soon as you push off the wall.

Step 4: Tighten your streamline behind your ears.
This allows you to lock in your streamline around the crown your head, making it difficult to break and making you more hydrodynamic off the walls.

Step 5: Draw in your core.
Many people like to flare out their ribcage when they’re in streamline position. Instead, imagine drawing your belly button in toward your spine.
Voilà! There you have it. A nice, tight streamline.

Also, pumpkin spice season is almost over. If you haven’t gotten your hands on some 1st Phorm Pumpkin Spice Latte protein supplement, get it before it’s all sold out!
